On Death and Dying. When the doctor gave our family the diagnosis and said "I'm sorry," he really did look sorry. One month, he told us. That's about how long I had to live. Apparently, the cancer had spread to my lungs. It was too far along to be treated, and now all I could do is wait to die. In a way, I was ready to leave the world. I'd lived my life as well as I felt I possibly could, and now I could rest easy, knowing that by sometime in May, I would be gone.
